What an exciting day. Today we have four potentially smart Frankel two-year-olds making their debut. Amazingly, three are contesting the same race: 1:15 Ascot. The 7f Betfred Supports Jack Berry House British Fillies' Novices Stakes (Plus 10/GGB Race) (Class 5) (2YO). These three well-regarded fillies will be making their mark this season and it would be no surprise to see one of these talents winning today. Snow Lantern - Many readers will remember Richard Hannon's star filly, Sky Lantern, won impressively on debut and carved out a career of winning at the highest level. In a career of 16 races, she won 6 and finished runner up 4 times. Highlights include: The Moyglare Stakes (Group 1) English 1000 Guineas (Group 1) Coronation Stakes (Group 1) Sun Chariot Stakes (Group 1) Snow Lantern is a grey daughter of Frankel, a March foal, in the ownership of Rockcliffe Stud. Zabeel Queen - This bay daughter of Frankel is out of the mare Dubai Queen, a winning who raced at listed class when in training with Luca Cumani and similarly owned by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum. This homebred is in training with Roger Varian and already hold an entry for the Moyglare Stakes (Group 1). Light Refrain - This well-bred daughter of Frankel is in the ownership of Her Majesty The Queen. The mare was similarly owned and trained by William Haggas. This January foal may be the first Frankel bred by the Queen. In addition, we have a very exciting horse in training with Charlie Appleby, racing at Newmarket. Dhahabi - This a bay colt and son of Frankel out of the mare Fleche D'or and he is a half-brother to Derby winner Golden Horn (pictured). This March foal cost a wallet-busting 3.1 Million guineas. What a day of Frankels we have to look forward to.
You know what that means? Lots of resolutions to visit Frankel Horse Racing Blog! Perhaps, for a few diehards that will be the case. One thing you can guarantee is that our little blog will be keeping you up to speed with this year's crop of Frankel two-year-olds (2yo). For me, that is akin to seeing Father Xmas run down the gallops with a big carrot in his hand, cheeks flushed, just ahead of a Frankel prospect that doesn't need tempting to outpace ''good, old Santa'' because these juveniles don't need any motivation to be stars of the future. They will run like the wind... Well, that's the hope of all who own a Frankel horse, watch the Frankel horses and, perhaps, have a bet they will be winning a race or two. Anyway, enough of all this New Year stuff because we know you want to get to the good stuff - those Frankel two-year-olds. We won't keep you waiting because we have a few two-year-old colts and fillies who not only have been named but are flying up the gallops. (They may have seen the gallops, that will do for now). So here is a list of a few Frankel 2yos for the 2020 season. Frankai - trained by Roger Varian. This bay filly is a daughter of Dubai Queen who was trained by Luca Cumani in the same ownership as Obaid, Sheikh Mohammed. This homebred hails from a mare who enjoyed a trip and a one-time winner in a career of eight starts. She is related to Sharja Queen, who has notched up a few wins for this trainer/owner combination. The Guvnor - trained by Tom Clover. Great to see this Newmarket trainer has finally got his hands on a Frankel. This bay colt bred by Lady Bamford out of the mare Eva's Quest who was trained by Mick Channon who won seven times in a twenty-six race career. She won at Grade 1, achieving an official rating of 109 and total prize money of £516,445. This May foal is worth noting for the season ahead. Divine Herald - trained by Sir Michael Stoute. This April foal, bay filly, is out of the mare Heaven Sent who is bred by Cheveley Park Stud. She raced twenty-seven times and won six times achieving an official rating of 114, winning at Group 3 and £362,081 in total prize money. Divine Herald is a full-sister to Seven Heavens who was formerly trained by John Gosden. Zagato - trained by John Gosden. This bay colt is a son of Izzi Top. This very talented mare was similarly trained but ran in the ownership of Helena Springfield Ltd. Izzi Top won six of her twelve races including Group 1 class. She went close to winning on debut at odds of 33/1. Certainly, as a four-year-olds she was ultra-consistent winning four of her six races. She achieved an official rating of 115 and total prize earnings of £472,668. Zagato is bred by Meon Valley Stud who cost 725,000 guineas at the yearling sales. This stud's horses run in the black and white silks of Helena Springfield Ltd. Expensive relatives include Prince Eiji who cost a whopping 2,600,000 guineas at the yearling sales. An exciting prospect in Zagato. Light Refrain - trained by William Haggas. This bay filly - a January foal - is bred by The Queen out of the mare Light Music who was simialrly owned and trained. She raced seven times over two season, finishing second on debut, winning at huge odds on second start before winning at Listed class on her third start. An official rating of 98 and total earning of £38,500. Beloved - trained by Ed Walker. Ed Walker is a trainer going places and this bay daughter of Frankel is out of a mare called Love And Bubbles. Beloved cost 350,000 guineas at the yearling sales. To be updated...
