Frankel Watch: Top Top Top

I'm sure we've used this blog post title before.

Top Top is running tomorrow at Lingfield (3:00). This son of Frankel is trained by Ralph Beckett in the ownership of King Power Racing Co Ltd. The mare, Jira, won twice in her career, achieving Listed-class success. Top Top wasn't fancied in the betting when a 33/1 shot. He ran over one mile at Newmarket, almost ten lengths behind Turgenev who is top class. This 260,000 guineas yearling purchase needs to have improved for that first outing. That is likely. Interesting to see how he goes after well over a month on the sidelines.

Frankel Watch: The Week Ahead (29th October)

Let's take a look at the Frankel two-year-olds for this new week.

Friday - 8 PM

The highlight of the week is East, trained by Kevin Ryan, competing in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf over one mile at Churchill Downs, USA.

Wednesday -

1:10 Nottingham -

A couple of entrants for this 1m 1/2f. Fox Vardy has been a major disappointment on his two starts to date. Most likely looking for a nursery mark, which on what we have seen so far, with be low.

Top Top wasn't fancied on debut at odds of 33/1. Ralph Beckett has been in tremendous form with his juveniles this year. Needs to improve on that first start.

Thursday -

3:40 Lingfield -

A Frankel debutante trained by John Gosden in the ownership of Hamdan Al Maktoum. Jadeerah is a daughter of Frankel out of a talented twice-winning mare who won on debut and then the Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2), placed in the Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1). Although never winning in her next eight starts, she was placed in 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. She achieved the highest official rating of 110.

6:00 Newcastle -

Gantier is entered for his second start. This son of Frankel raced over 7f on debut when priced 25/1. A terrible slow start saw his left with a real mountain to climb. Looked in need of the run. Stepping up a furlong will help. This gelding did run on in the closing stages so worth giving a second chance but needs to show much more.

Frankel Watch: Top Top Top

We saw a nice Frankel two-year-old win earlier this week when East proved a live prospect for Kevin Ryan.

Looking at the declarations I see Ralph Beckett has Top Top earmarked for 1st October at Kempton (6:45).

This bay colt is a son of Frankel out of Jira who was trained by Clive Brittain and raced fifteen times with two wins. Both successes came at two, including a Listed race victory. Total prize money of just over £77,000. A highest official rating of 100.

Top Top cost 260,000 guineas and owned by King Power Racing Co Ltd. Readers may remember that he is the owner of Leicester City. He has spent a fortune on horses this season with some success.

Ralph Beckett has a decent string of juveniles this season including another two-year-old sired by Frankel named Fume. By all accounts, Fume has proven a very disappointing horse, beaten favourite on debut. Most recently, racing at nursery class with an official rating of 70.

Frankel Watch: Top Top Trained by Ralph Beckett

With the start of the Flat turf season underway, we have already seen a Brocklesby Conditions Stakes winner in the shape of Izzer, trained by Mick Channon.

No sign of any Frankel two-year-olds hitting the course just yet. However, we can be confident many will be on the gallops. It's interesting to consider a few Frankel two-year-olds, their breeding, ownership and training.

Taking a quick look at Frankel's offspring for this year I notice the following colt trained by Ralphe Beckett.

Top Top

This bay son of Frankel was born on the 7th February 2016, out of a mare called Jira. She was trained by Clive Brittain in the ownership of Saeed Manana racing fifteen times in her career, achieving two wins: a maiden and a Listed race. Her highest official rating being 100. A fair horse who competed at Group class.

Top Top was bred by Darley Stud Management Co Ltd. He races in the colours of King Power Racing Co Ltd and cost 260,000G when purchased by Sackvilledonald from Tattersalls October Yearling Sales (Book 1) 2017.
