Readers may have noticed we have given a good few column inches to Frankel offspring this season. That's what you would expect from a website/blog dedicated to Frankel two-year-olds of the highest order. We mentioned Shammah in a couple of articles, half anticipating a win. However, this daughter of Frankel out of the dam Biscaya Bay, a French-winning mare, who raced up to Group 3, has finally come good. Anyway, it was third time lucky for this bay filly who won impressively at Windsor when stepping back to 5f. This March foal ran well on debut when competing in the Simon & Nerys Dutfield Memorial Stakes at Salisbury. She finished third behind Andrew Balding's Symbolize, who competed at Royal Ascot. The second start saw Shammah race at Kempton over 6f. A wide draw didn't help her cause as jockey Sean Levey got to the rail but in the process she ran much too freely and, therefore, struggled to finish the race, tiring rapidly in the final furlong to finish eighth of twelve. On the 17th of June, Shammah left the opposition trailing some five-lengths behind with an all-the-way victory at Windsor. The drop back to the minimum trip proved a positive move and race comments ''very comfortably'' detail a smart performance on good to soft going. Richard Hannon had considered this talented juvenile for the Hilary Needler Trophy Stakes, but connections bypassed that competitive heat. Owner Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah will no doubt be hoping for future successes. Juddmonte Farms said: ''Shammah the latest 2YO winner for Frankel, very impressive over 5f''.

This daughter of Frankel out of a winning mare finished a creditable third behind Andrew Balding's Symbolize who looks a fair prospect. Our recent post noted John Gosden's Frankel coltHernam Hesse, who made his debut at Great Yarmouth. By all accounts, it looked a strong race with Charlie Appleby's Boccaccio returning a comfortable winner while all those which hit the frame are worthy of interest in preceding weeks. Herman Hesse was well backed but needed the run and will be much better next time out. A lovely-looking colt who should be tasting victory sooner than later. Back to proceedings. Shammah is a daughter of Frankel, who made her debut at Salisbury when starting at odds of 6/1. This compact bay filly is out of a winning French mare. Readers may remember that Nerys Dutfield held a trainer's licence. The couple owned Axminster Carpets. Mr Dutfield died in April 2016, while his wife sadly passed away on July 20th (2016), after battling cancer. The couple is survived by their eight children. It's been a quiet time of late. However, a couple of Frankel-sired two-year-olds have made their debut. Sir Michael Stoute unveiled his first juvenile of the season and it happened to be a bay colt sired by Frankel out of the Group-winning mare Heaven Sent, who was similarly owned and trained. Heaven Forfend, racing in the familiar silks of Cheveley Park Stud, is homebred and by what we saw on debut at Newbury a talented two-year-old. This March foal was well backed after looking weak in the market early doors. He wasn't best situated with a wide draw, which saw him a little off the pace. However, Heaven Sent moved up with purpose at the two-furlong pole and put down a real challenge. He finished second to John Gosden's Light Angel who is a fair horse, who had the advantage of a previous run. Heaven Sent will go well next time out and could well head to Royal Ascot. In addition, we saw Richard Hannon's Shammah make her debut at Salisbury in the Simon & Nerys Dutfield Memorial Novices Stakes over 5f. This daughter of Frankel is out of a winning mare, who raced in France. Shammah is a good-looking bay filly who showed great promise on this first outing. She put in a professional display to finish third behind Andrew Balding's Symbolize, who won by one-and-a-half lengths. I was left with the impression it was a competitive heat with the first five clear of the field. Shammah cost 230,000 guineas at the yearling sales and races in the ownership of Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah. A good start to the two-year-old Frankel 2019 season.
